Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND)
Welcome to our SEND pages, providing information on the support we provide for students who have Special Educational Needs or Disabilities. We hope you will enjoy reading about the variety of ways in which St Ann’s Primary, Nursery and Early Learners School is able to support students with additional needs to reach their full potential.
At St Ann's we strive to support all children to enable them to achieve at school. We believe that every child matters and during their journey with us we will ensure that they are happy, safe and enjoy their learning. In order to do this, many steps are taken to support them and as a school are committed to ensuring that all students make good progress.
Quality First teaching is vital; however, for some children there are occasions when further additional support may be needed to help them achieve their targets. This may involve providing additional small group support after school and / or additional help within the school day, individually or in a small group, focusing on individual needs.
At St Ann's we commit ourselves to the principle that all teachers are teachers of pupils with SEND and offer a warm, nurturing learning environment to all our students. We also actively encourage parents/carers to get involved in their child’s learning to ensure that teaching and learning, the curriculum and achievement, meets the needs of all our students and prepares them for life beyond St Ann's Primary School.
Our Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENDCo) is Mrs K Sherwen
Mrs Sherwen is available to meet with parents and carers to discuss any concerns they may have about their child's progress or development. We encourage parents and carers to talk to their child's class teacher in the first instance.
Our Governor with responsibility for SEND is Reverend Shirley Cowan

Admission Arrangements for Pupils with SEN or Disabilities
In accordance with the Disability Discrimination Act pupils with disabilities are treated with equal rights with respect to admission. The school will make every practicable and reasonable alteration to buildings, learning environments, staffing and approach necessary to accommodate the admission of all pupils who request a place. In most cases, there will be a liaison with outside agencies including the local authority. Funding may be sought for exceptional cases. The above admission policy will be adhered to in all cases. To prevent a child with a disability being treated less favourably than other pupils we recommend the following:
· You contact the school’s SEN Co-ordinator at the earliest opportunity to discuss inclusion and admission arrangements.
· You visit the school prior to admission
· You raise any concerns you may have at the earliest opportunity.
If you are unsure of any of the above procedures, please do not hesitate to contact the Headteacher or SENDCo.
