Intent 

The aims of our MFL curriculum are to provide children with the opportunity to discover other cultures and deepen their understanding of the wider world.  We aim for children to become confident learners who can understand, speak, read and write in French. Through their study of MFL, all pupils are equipped to use their knowledge of the French language so that they can express simple ideas with clarity, using sentences and appropriate punctuation. We aim to foster an interest in learning additional languages by laying the foundations for study beyond Key Stage Two. The three Christian values of hope for a positive future, respect and perseverance help drive this curriculum. 

We want our all children to –

• Have equal opportunities to enjoy and benefit from MFL lessons.
• Understand and respond to spoken and written language for a variety of sources.
• Speak with increasing confidence, fluency and spontaneity, finding ways of communicating what they want to say, including through discussion and asking questions.
• Continuously improve the accuracy of their pronunciation and intonation.
• Write at varying length, for different purposes and audiences.
• Achieve a solid grounding for future learning at high school and beyond.
